Photographer Needed

For the past couple of months I've been really into photojournalism and the idea of "capturing verbs". I've come up with a few great ideas from this concept that I'm going to use for the boutique. You may see a few changes coming very soon.

I am currently looking for a photographer who has the skill to elegantly capture movement. If you or someone you know has talent in this area please send me an email at info@chaiche.com. Serious inquiries only!

The Princess and the Frog

As I was reading the news on AOL, I came across a story about Disney's second try at creating its very first African American princess. I have mixed feelings about it. I believe that because it took Disney sooo long to make one, some/most African Americans will find some kind of fault in it. I'm just happy its finally going to happen. Here's the the beginning of the article...

by Bethany Sanders
Here's the good news: Disney is finally creating their first African-American princess. Here's the bad news: They just can't seem to get it right. The first version, The Frog Princess, was scrapped due to complaints that it was too stereotypical. The princess, named Maddy, was to be a chambermaid who worked for a spoiled white woman. Maddy is saved from a voodoo magician by a white prince, with help from her voodoo fairy godmother.
Disney's second version -- The Princess and the Frog --is still a musical set in New Orleans, but the company is keeping mum on most of the details. The heroine will be a 19-year-old named Tiana, and the film..... Read more

Pouch Designs

Here is what the finished pouch should look like (missing buttons to close it). I just wanted to show you all what the design choices are. Not sure which I like best...How bout you? Which design do you prefer. Feel free to leave a comment.

My first pouch

It been raining all day long here on the island...

I decided to use this time in the house wisely. I created another bag.. ;-) its not finished but its a small pouch. Once I get back to the States, im gonna slap one of my new designs on it and add some other bells and whistles.

I even got a lil fancy and added lining and a inside pocket.

My first bag

I said I would post a picture of the bag I made yesterday....

my first bag is really my first anything...since I never made anything with a sewing machine before

Sewing 101

I've had this craving to sew using a sewing machine. The problem however, was that I didn't have the first clue about how to use a sewing machine. I asked my aunt to borrow hers. Once I had it in my posession I stayed up all night trying to figure out how thread it..then how to use the darn thing.

Well I figured it out and 3 days later made my first messenger bag. I think it looks fantastic (if i do say so myself).

I snapped a quick picture of just the strap to tease you a bit.

I'm getting a bit sleepy and I still have some business card designs to finish. I'll upload a better picture of the bag tomorrow.

Night Night!

Barbados - Day 5

I went to a pork lime today. What's a pork lime you ask!?! Ok, so we all know what pork is, and to lime is a west indian term which pretty much means to chill aka hang out. So a pork lime is a party where they cook all different kinds of pork (pig tail, pork chops, souse etc) and other meats while jammin to music. You pretty much stuff your face, drink and dance.
There were so much people and so few cooks it took us 2 hours before we finally got our food.

As far as work goes...I went into town today and picked up some fabric for a bag that I have envisioned in my mind. This should be interesting!

Barbados - Day 3

I drove a right hand drive car today for the first time EVER!! It was quite interesting. The darn indicator is on the right and the wipers on the left..of course I didnt realize that till I was on the road. Driving on the opposite side of the road is something I gotta get use to...

Anyway...I went to my dads other house today (my house), the Jamaicans that lived there just moved back to Jamaica so I was able to go in. I haven't seen the inside in over 9 years. I took a couple pictures so you can see it too!!

Barbados - Day 2

I've been tryin to take pictures of a couple birds that sing at the window all day long. They're pretty black birds who sometime eat the mangos off my dads tree. I step outside all "clumsily" (as someone special puts it) and I scare off the birds. So I decided to take a picture of something pretty that will stay still for me.

FREEZE

Usually while I'm at home working hard on the shop a good friend of mine sends me random videos to watch, some are pretty 'stoopid' and others are pretty amazing. He sent me this today and I thought it was so cool and I wish I was apart of it. I figured I should share. Enjoy!
